Frequent Asked Questions on Employment at the PUD

Can I send in a resume or application to apply for any positions that are not currently posted?

Sorry, we accept application materials for currently posted positions only.

How do I know if a position is currently posted?

All current job openings are posted on our website:  www.clallampud.net/jobs/.
We advertise in the Peninsula Daily News, in a Sunday edition.  You can view their classified ads online at www.peninsuladailynews.com.

How often are job postings updated?

Job postings are added to the site as they become available.  Status on recently closed positions is updated at least weekly.

I heard that you had a job opening, but I don’t see it in your advertisements or on the website.

Certain positions must first be offered to current employees.  If no one bids on the posting, then it is made available to the public, advertised and posted on our website.

If I submitted application materials for a current job posting, will I receive an interview?

We confirm receipt of applications via email.  Applications are reviewed in reference to our current opening and candidates selected for an interview will be contacted to arrange an appointment.  Due to the number of applications received and the limited staff and resources, we are not able to interview every applicant.  You may check the status of the closed position on our website up to one month after the closing.

If I see a position posted on your website that has been posted for a long time, are you still taking application packets for that position?

We will still take applications for job postings listed under Current Job Postings.  Those that have closed will be moved to the Recently Closed Job Postings section.

Do I need to apply separately for each position I am interested in?

Yes, you will need to apply for each position that you are interested in.  The Opportunity Notice, Job Description, and Supplemental Questionnaire are different for each job posting and we want to be sure your application is considered for any position in which you are interested and qualified.

What forms do I need to submit to apply for a current job opening?

Check out our Application Submittal Checklist for more details.  In general, each job posting requires submission of completed Supplemental Questionnaire and Employment Application forms.  The Equal Employment Data sheet is voluntary.  You may attach other documents including your résumé that may be helpful to the interview team in determining the best candidate for the position.

What employee benefits do you offer?

Click this link to view our Employee Benefits.

Do you offer relocation assistance to candidates?

We provide relocation assistance to candidates for some positions.  Contact us to determine if you would be eligible when applying for the position you are interested in.

Can I get more information on the PUD?

Clallam County Public Utility District serves the public rate-payers electric, water, wastewater, and broadband.  The electric portion serves about 28,500 customers and the water district serves approximately 4,100 in nine (9) water systems.  The District also has a couple of small community septic systems.

Our 130 employees work in various shops and offices in Sequim, Carlsborg, Port Angeles, Forks and the Clallam Bay/Sekiu areas to provide better service to the ratepayers in Clallam County.

Departments include Operations (in field and office); Engineering (Distribution and Transmission, Substation and SCADA Systems); Water and Wastewater Systems; Telecommunications, Power Resources and Conservation; Customer Service and Meter Reader; Customer Information System, Billing and Records; Accounting Treasurer; Operations Facilities; Information Systems and Human Resources.

Where is Clallam County and why do I want to come to work there?

Clallam County is in northwest Washington, bordering Canada, the Pacific Ocean, and Olympic National Park.  The 65,000 people living here and thousands of visitors enjoy the diversity of our region.

Port Angeles is a modern community, rich in cultural events and history.  There are not very many locations that can offer the diversity of boating that the Northwest has to offer.  Port Angeles was discovered in 1769 because of the wonderful sheltered harbor and deep water access.  The Port is a safe haven for large ships and the many local marinas attract some of the finest cruising anywhere.  Smaller boat enthusiasts can enjoy lakes such as Lake Crescent, with its turquoise blue water and mountainous shorelines and rivers abound.   Or you can ride a ferry from Port Angeles 18 miles across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the city of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, Canada.

Bike, hike, walk or horseback ride the Olympic Discovery Trail as it meanders through valleys and across creeks with the glorious Olympic Mountains to the south and the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north.

East Clallam County centers around Sequim and its farmlands.  Sequim is the Lavender capital of North America.  During the summer months, most farms are open to the public for U-pick and the Sequim Lavender Festival, held the third weekend of July, attracts thousands of visitors to the area.  You can come into close contact with wildlife from your car at the Olympic Game Farm, in the nearby fields, wildlife areas and parks throughout the county.  Or bird watch for any of the thousands of birds from over 200 different species that call the Peninsula home.

West Clallam County’s 2,000 miles of area has only one stoplight on a 160 mile stretch of highway to hundreds of miles of rugged coastline, one of the lushest rain-forests in the world, and endless miles of streams and rivers.

Our community boasts excellent schools, medical care, parks and great events. Peninsula College offers two-year degrees and several four-year degree options or non-credit adult learning.  The Olympic Medical Center is a full-service hospital and has received numerous national awards for quality patient care.

So…this is your invitation to live, work and play on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula, where within minutes or a couple of hours you can be walking a remote beach, kayaking a river, hiking to a glacier or discovering the secrets of a rain forest.

  • Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park is the local haven for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, downhill skiing and tubing.  And for the backcountry hiker-camping enthusiast there are few better places to retreat to than the Olympic National Park.
  • Get the appropriate license and within a short distance you can test your fishing skills in salt water, lakes, streams, rivers and even catch shellfish.  We are home to the famous Dungeness Crab highlighted in local restaurants and at the Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival in October.
  • Kayaking is also popular here because from one destination you have access to flat water, white water and sea kayaking.
  • Blessed with a location of mild seasonal swings, Clallam County offers year-round golf at several courses.
  • Local entertainment also flourishes here, from the 7 Cedars Casino in the east to the Makah Tribal Culture Center in the far west.
  • Several local wineries produce great wine and over the last several years have gained a good deal of notoriety.  Do your own taste testing or visit during the many special events the wineries hold throughout the year.
