Chart # 1 Non-Metallic PVC Direct-Buried Conduit

PVC Conduit must meet the following requirements:

  1. The following information shall be imprinted on all PVC conduit:
    1. Manufacturers name or trademark
    2. Nominal size
    3. Material (PVC)
  2. Schedule 40 or 80 PVC is required for service riser according to the NEC and NEMA STANDARD for applications listed below:
    1. Type III - Designed for normal-duty applications above ground (Sch 40).
    2. Type IV - Designed for heavy-duty applications above ground (Sch 80) (Hazardous areas, e.g. next to driveways).
    3. Conduit bends shall be long-radius type
      i. Minimums:
      2 inches to 24 inches Radius
      3 inches to 30 inches Radius
      4 inches to 48 inches Radius
      6 inches to 60 inches Radius
  3. Residential secondary service conduit shall be a minimum of 2 inches Schedule 40 PVC, NEMA Standard TC-2.
  4. 5 inches conduit is not a District standard; must use 6 inches to be compatible when the District will be extending customer/contractor-installed conduits.

(400) and (500) minimum size for neutral ampacity.

(300) size per Essex Cable Handbook could be 250 and have required neutral ampacity.

5-inch conduit is not District standard; must use 6 inches to be compatible when the District will be extending customer conduits.

Use NEC conduit sizing where the District will not own the conductors.
