Clallam Bay-Sekiu Emergency Bypass Replacement
In late 2021 a catastrophic landslide damaged the water main connecting Clallam Bay and Sekiu. Clallam PUD was able to secure funding from FEMA for the design of a replacement water main which would mitigate the potential for future landslide-related water system damage. Preliminary geotechnical evaluation suggests installing some of the 3500 linear foot water line between 20 and 40 feet below ground surface. Clallam PUD is working with FEMA and WSDOT to finalize the water main design and secure funding for construction in 2024 or 2025.
Clallam Bay-Sekiu Infrastructure Upgrades: Phase 3
This project replaces approximately 3400 linear feet of water main along E. Frontier Street, Fisherman’s Street, and Salt Air Street in Clallam Bay. Design will take place between March and August 2024 with construction scheduled to begin in October 2024. This project is funded by a loan from the State Department of Commerce Public Works Board.
Carlsborg/Van Lan Phases 1 & 2
Clallam PUD is partnered with Clallam County to develop a new source of clean, reliable, and sustainable water supply for the Carlsborg Water System. A new deep groundwater well has been constructed and tested near the intersection of Carlsborg Road and Old Olympic Highway. Phase 1 of this project extends the existing Carlsborg Water System north to the location of the new well. Construction for Phase 1 will be substantially complete in March 2024. Phase 2 involves constructing a new PUD facility and installing pumping equipment in the well in order to bring it online. Phase 2 requires final approval and permitting from the State Department of Health and the State Department of Ecology. The project is partially funded through an American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) subrecipient grant agreement with Clallam County.
WSDOT Lee’s Creek Utility Relocation
Several of the WSDOT fish passage projects require the relocation of Clallam PUD water and electric utilities. A WSDOT fish passage project on SR 101 requires the removal and relocation of the water main crossing at Lee’s Creek. Clallam PUD is coordinating with WSDOT in order to minimize water service disruptions and leverage on the opportunity to improve the fi re flow capacity of the crossing by upsizing the water main to 10 inches. This project is currently funded by PUD capital reserves. Funding assistance requests have been submitted to Rep. Chapman, Rep. Th aringer, and Senator Ven de Wege.
