Clallam PUD To Begin Accepting Participation Agreements for Community Solar Project

Carlsborg, WA – April 4, 2019 – Public Utility District (PUD) #1 of Clallam County (Clallam PUD) will begin accepting paid participation agreements for the purchase of units of its community solar installation, expected to begin production in late 2019.

The project, to be sited at 410 East Washington Street in Sequim, WA, will be a 30kW project consisting of approximately 96 panels and estimated to produce up to 32,000 kWh annually over 25 years. The proposed project was presented to the PUD Board of Commissioners on March 25.

A customer can submit an offer to purchase between 1 and 125 units by completing the participation agreement and submitting payment in person at any Clallam PUD customer service location, beginning April 15, 2019. A unit is equal to approximately 15 watts of power. There will be 2,000 units available in this project.

Community solar differs from rooftop solar in that rooftop solar is typically owned by a homeowner or business owner and located on homes or businesses rooftops. However, not all customer properties are conducive to solar generation because they are not optimally situated relative to the sun or objects that may block the sun. Community solar is paid for mostly by interested customers in the community. It can be sited at various locations throughout the community and is typically ground mounted due to the large number of panels. Customers also don’t have to worry about permitting, securing a contractor to install the solar panels, or ongoing maintenance of the panels and equipment.

Customers investing in community solar have the opportunity to take advantage of financial incentives currently offered by the State of Washington, in addition to receiving a credit on their bill based on the production of the solar array. For some, it is simply important to support the growth of solar for the environmental attributes. For complete program details visit our Community Solar page.
