General Manager’s Message – April 2024

Sean Worthington

Our quarterly newsletter that you are reading has about a month’s lead time to get the content prepared before it goes to print and then gets processed for mailing so while our goal is to be ready with content that is current when you receive it in the mailbox, sometimes the timing doesn’t perfectly align.

But I would be remiss if I did not dedicate space here to acknowledge the passing of Commissioner Jim Waddell in February. At the Board of Commissioners meeting of February 26, 2024, the Commissioners on behalf of Clallam PUD, adopted a resolution in appreciation of Commissioner Waddell, who lost his battle with cancer earlier in the month. There was also a public comment period held so attendees could say a few words. The resolution read:

"Whereas, Commissioner James (Jim) Waddell’s term as Commissioner of District 3 concluded February 4th, 2024 due to his passing from pancreatic cancer. He served in this role for 5 years beginning January 1, 2019.

Whereas, Commissioner Waddell challenged staff to excel in business endeavors contributing to improvements in Strategic Planning, national awards for APPA Operational Excellence, Smart Energy, as well as GFOA Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Whereas, Commissioner Waddell was dedicated to addressing the needs of our customers and approached his work with compassion, thoughtfulness, and fairness. He brought a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and talents to the position and was always willing to share them with others; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, On behalf of the Staff of PUD Number 1 of Clallam County and the Board of Commissioners, we extend our deepest condolences to Commissioner Waddell's family during this diffi cult time. We also want to express our gratitude for his dedicated service to the PUD ratepayers of Clallam County for over 5 years."

The Commissioners have 90 days to appoint a replacement to fill the position until the certification of the general election in November. The Notice of Vacancy period has now passed and we anticipate that interviews and a selection will be made in April, with the new Commissioner starting May 1. Any special meetings or interviews related to the appointment are open to the public and notice will be posted on our website should you wish to attend.
